Will the I.T jobs go the same way as the tv engineers jobs of the past?
with computers getting more powerfull and clever all the time the day will come when I.T. jobs are in a minority a victim of their own technology should we not be thinking ahead and diversyfiying the present school ciriculum to expand into more practical training
to equip or children for all eventuallities or we will be left with a workforce unable to adapt to change or think for themselves
THOUGHT
take away electricity and a man looks at a blank screen
give a man a axe and he can make something usefull
the basics of old normal trades need to be brought back in before the blinkered IT for the future brigade run rough shod over the whole education system
Do whiteboards make kids learn better than blackboards?
does copying something from the internet make it better than reading it from a book and writing it out yourself?

Nobody really likes IT people too much and most of us wish that they'd go away but when things go wrong they're great to have around. I'm a mechanical engineer and pretty good with computers but those guys always seem to know some weird nitty gritty detail that'll fix problems. I'll celebrate the day that the IT guy stands in the welfare line all pissed off cause he can't make a smart ass comment to anyone that afternoon when the network goes down, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
If you think IT jobs mean "hardware", then yes – computers will become disposable commodities, in the same way that people don't get their TVs repaired, instead they just tend to buy a new one.
However, IT generally means "software" – in TV terms, this means the people that make TV programmes – and there's probably more of them than ever.

I would say you are right, but what can be done about it? Education is always going to run on a system of supply and demand. Unfortunately the educators children have lack the foresight to plan for these things. I have wondered myself why not stage a mock business in a classroom. Assign each child a title just like in corporate office. Give them all responsibilities and make a product. Let them decide how to market the product, etc. Let every class do it but the kindergardeners – let the kindergardeners be the consumers. They can buy one product, which one do they buy. I think this would be very beneficial to children – to teach them how a business operates. It is very hard to understand the nuances envolved unless you are learning the process from the inside… but that is just me, just like your idea, how exactly do you implement it?
